KABANI was a prudent dream. A dream as old as our passion for our land and people… Different people, different ideas, different professions… They met many times; their dream envisaged a common vision and mission…
Thus did KABANI originate.
KABANI is a togetherness of some young blood, thinking and striving for the cause of their native people and the land that they love. As Kabani, the river flows the other way than others, sure do we, too, do things “the other way”, and thus we call KABANI “the other direction”.
Who are ‘WE’? The inclusive policy of KABANI defines “we” inline with the Malayalam “nammal”, an inclusive form of “we” in our mother tongue that welcomes you, too, to be part of the initiative.
We are working towards a better tourism model in India, which finds its basis in the local people, focussing on the socio-economic security and sustainability of the place. We are carrying out research, campaigns, advocacy, lobbying, networking and training activities to promote sustainability in the context of tourism and development. We are working mainly in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, but also in other places where people can benefit from our ideas and experiences and share our vision that tourism in another direction is possible.
At KABANI, we believe that the inclusive "we" will bring different ideas and creativity. So we facilitate a creative common space for committed people who can share the larger political view of the organisation.
Let us travel together in the other direction for a better world...
